Arts & Artist Benefit Concert __cont.

First the space -- Annie rearranged the space so the musicians played with light streaming in from the openings in the ceiling above them and a hand-made mural of trees held them in its stretch of branches and leaves behind them. Second, the listeners were as eager to learn about VALA as to come to hear the music. One question I fielded was, "Do you really teach Gertrude Stein to nine year olds?" Third, but not least, the musicians, who played the best concert of guitar and horns that I've heard in well over a decade. David Sturdevant, VALA artist supreme, brought the two other musicians -- John Stafford, master clarinet player, and Erik Jekabson, terrific trumpet player -- and it was not just David who looked like he was in heaven with this music, but jazz officionades in the audience as well. It was a perfect VALA event with outstanding artists and a wonderful audience. We look forward to David bringing his music into Annie's space before too long again. Don't miss it then!
